There are those citizens that do good things for Pakistan, and then there are those who do great things for Pakistan.

On January 8, Engro Corporation Limited hosted the first Engro Excellence Awards 2011, a grand ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of three eminent Pakistanis who achieved a lifetime of excellence in their respective fields. The recipients of these prestigious awards were Abdul Sattar Edhi for Social and Humanitarian Services, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman for Physical and Applied Sciences and Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi for Literature. Each recipient was presented with an Engro Excellence Medallion, especially designed by the talented Tapu Javeri, as well as a cash prize of five million rupees.

The awards ceremony was followed by a memorable show comprising three acts: the first was a ‘jugal bandi’ which encompassed all forms of art, the second was a tribute to “Women In Excellence” and the third act was “Excellence Through Generations” in which young stars paid homage to senior ones.

The evening saw some beautifully choreographed dances by Arjumand Rahim and Joshinder Chaggar, as well as vocals by Farid Ayaz, Sanam Marvi, Fariha Pervaiz, Ayesha Omar and Fareed Ayaz. However, the special treat of the evening were performances by the inimitable Arif Lohar, and the superstar, Atif Aslam. Kudos to Engro for honouring Pakistan’s prized possessions.
