The HUM Telefilm Awards, held on January 13 at Karachi’s PAF museum, saw an impressive turnout of people from the government and corporate sector, celebrities and socialites. The crowd swelled to well over 1,000 guests, who gathered under a grand marquee. The hosts of the evening were the vivacious VJ Anoushey, and actors Mohib Mirza and Fahad Mustafa, who kept the audience in stitches with their jokes and jibes at their colleagues.

The cold winter night was warmed up by some really hot numbers. Actor Noor performed to the Aishwarya number, ‘Barso re megah’ with aplomb. Singer Komal gave a scintillating performance with brother Hasan Rizvi and his Bodybeat dance troupe. Meera swung to the naughty ‘Billo Rani’ and Laila performed the sizzling Katrina Kaif number ‘Sheela Ki Jawani’ — an act that brought the house down. The ‘chote ustaads’ were also on call and they sang the popular Bollywood number, ‘Koi Kahay Kehta Rahay.’

The prestigious Best Director Award went to Sakina Samoon for Kaun Qamar Ara. Farah Tufail won the Best Actor Award (female) for Tehreem and Rashid Farooqui won Best Actor (male) for Gullu Ustad, which also got awards for Best Cinematography and Editing.

The top three awards — the bronze, silver and gold Telefilm Awards — were presented at the end of the show by the president of HUM Network, Sultana Siddiqui. The coveted gold award went to Irfan Khoosat for Tehreem.

All in all, the audience had a rollicking time and stayed on till the wee hours of the chilly night.
