In this age of high-profile weddings where everyone is geared to outdo the other, Vaneeza Ahmed’s recent wedding — she tied the knot in the last week of July — comes as a breath of fresh air. Super model she may be, but she says she was determined not to have a grand wedding with the glitterati and media in tow. “People love to talk no matter what, and I didn’t want to give people an occasion to pass comments about everything,” she says frankly.

And so the nikah was held at her mother’s house in Lahore, followed by a small reception at the Polo Lounge at Race Course Club. She says, “I had always wanted a small, quiet affair attended only by very close friends and family, and that’s exactly what my wedding turned out to be. If I could have had my way, I wouldn’t have even dressed up for it! I have worn so many bridals for the ramp, that I had no desire to wear another one.”

Vinny has known her husband, Ali Afzal, for the last 15 years. He was based in the US and has only recently returned to Islamabad, working in the sector of renewable energy. So far, Vinny plans to continue living in Karachi while Ali will remain in Islamabad.
