Nokia launched the 5800 XpressMusic device at a hotel in Karachi, with the enthusiasic VJ Mahira playing host for the evening. The phone combines all the features of the standard Nokia phone with an MP3 player and, for the first time, a touch screen.

The innovative Nokia Music PC software allows the user to drag music from their computers directly onto the phone. The songs can then easily be categorised into playlists. Another novel introduction is the Media Bar, which provides easy one-click access to songs, videos, phone contacts and videos. The device also offers 35 hours of music storage, easy access to contacts and web surfing.

Director Marketing Nokia Pakistan Afzal Shahabuddin, describing the marketing strategy behind the phone, said, “With the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, we set out to connect people through the one thing we all feel a universal connection to — music.”
