One of Pakistan’s finest journalists has become the new Pakistan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington – and he also happens to be a senior editor with Newsline. Zahid Hussain is an award-winning journalist and the author of two critically acclaimed books, The Scorpion’s Tale: The Relentless Rise of Islamic Militants in Pakistan – and How It Threatens America and Frontline Pakistan: The Struggle with Militant Islam. He will be joining the Wilson Center in September 2011.

The Washington-based non-partisan institution promotes dialogue and research in the study of world affairs. During his nine-month appointment, Mr Hussain will research and write a book covering security issues relating to Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

We wish our colleague well on this new challenge. Undoubtedly, though, all those who follow Pakistan closely will miss his accurate and trusted reporting while he shifts to DC.
