The year may have started disappointingly for Pakistani cinema but things seem to be hotting up with the anticipated release of Main Punjab Nahin Jaongi. The much anticipated venture by the Jawani Phir Nahin Aani team looks promising enough, judging by the recently released trailer.

The lead couple, Humayun Saeed and Mahvish Hayat have good on-screen chemistry and the film seems to be drawing some inspiration from the actors’ recent television hit Dillaagi. The film also stars Urwa Hocane, Saba Pervez and Ahmad Ali Butt and is directed by Nadeem Baig.

The film’s trailer focuses on grandiose sets and locales, the vibrant colours of the Punjab and simmering romantic tensions. One hopes the script and story by Khalilur Rahman Qamar, of television’s  Sadqay Tumhare fame, can match the striking visuals since a strong storyline seems to be the missing link in most recent Pakistani films.

Definitely one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year, here’s hoping it’s as good as the trailer promises.
