In Memoriam: Benazir Bhutto (1953-2007) The Pakistani politician was the first woman leader of a Muslim nation in modern history.

She became prime minister on December 1, 1988, heading a coalition government.

Benazir Bhutto's political and personal trajectory closely followed that of her father. Both were educated at Oxford, both served as premiers of Pakistan and both died tragic deaths.
