Origins of a New Lawn

Lawn designers seem to have created quite a stir this summer. But with the profuse loadshedding and unassailable summer heat, who can blame women for wanting to don the lightest fabrics that designer wear has to offer. On April 18, the famed house of Mausummery Lawn took this idea one step further and launched their first ready-to-wear outlet in Lahore, called Origins. Located on M.M. Alam road, this store offers the same breezy prints as those from their lawn exhibitions, only tailored to be worn as ready-to-wear outfits.
The team behind Origins includes Ayesha of Mausummery Lawn, and her brother Ali Pervez, who is married to television actor and anchor, Nadia Jamil. The launch was a high profile J&S event, with the crème de la crème of Lahore turning up on a hot and sultry Sunday afternoon for their first glimpse of the collection. Attendees included actor Juggan Kazim, musician Mekaal Hassan, film star Resham, famed model and actor Iffat Rahim, Shahzad of the Ather Shahzad duo, Meesha — who, according to Nadia, was the “best rock star shopper” — HSY and Tehmina Durrani, among many others.
On the day of the launch, the collection sold like hot cakes, with popular designs running out on the very first day. Very reasonably priced — ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 — the clothes were well-designed and well worth the price.
The team is now being flooded with requests to show in Karachi and elsewhere in the country, as well as to sell the collection online. But for now, Lahore seems to be their target market.
