Jumping on the Bandwagon

Fashion photographer Munna Mushtaq launched Dulhan, a bridal magazine, on May 18, on the fourth floor of Park Towers. The event, organised by Frieha Altaf’s PR and marketing company Catalyst, took off at around 6:00 p.m., but most of the invitees walked in fashionably late at 8 p.m. The 115-page magazine is a quarterly publication. Talking to Newsline, Munna said, “Karachi didn’t have a bridal magazine as yet. Whenever my friends wanted to check out the current wedding scene, they used to pick up magazines like Damas and Asian Wedding. That’s what urged me to produce a bridal magazine. I want to introduce this magazine on an international platform, where it will compete with the likes of Asian Women, etc.”
Among designers and make-up artists, Dulhan’s first issue brings forth the spectacular jewellery of Abu Rouhan. When asked about the magazine, he applauded the venture and humbly said, “If at the age of 63, the youth finds my work unique and it is featured in international magazines like Dulhan, then it’s an honour for me.”
However, Maheen Khan saw things differently. “The first question I ask myself when I look at the magazine is, do we need more fashion magazines? Do we have enough content or enough designers, for that matter, to write about? Yes, we do have ‘veranda tailors,’ but no designers per se.” She further added that it was good to see that Munna Mushtaq went for an eastern name for the publication, rather than keeping the tried and tested ones. Despite the presence of people like Saba Ansari, VJ Anoushey, Ayesha Omer, Farrukh Darban and Maheen Khan, it proved to be a low-key event overall.
