Launched in a small ceremony at the Sindh Governor’s House last year, the second edition of the Women in Focus Awards was a glamorous affair attended by corporate personalities, celebrities, socialites, media persons and women from professions across the board. Aimed at celebrating the dynamic women who have contributed to the growth and success of the media industry and society at large, the awards were held on the lawns of the Governor’s House, in support of breast cancer awareness.
Hosted by ace TV and film actor, Atiqa Odho, the star-studded event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran followed by the national anthem. Odho, who also serves as the chairperson of FocusPk, began the ceremony by speaking of her association with FocusPk. “This venture is very close to my heart as I feel women need to celebrate women and support one another – that is the only way to grow,”she said, and then invited project chair Misbah Khalid to detail her vision. “Today’s event aims to focus on women of substance, especially by celebrating women in the media who have dedicated their lives and contributed to the media industry and serve as an example for the younger women who aspire to follow in their footsteps,” said Khalid.
Among the many notable women awarded for their immense contributions were ace writer Noor ul Huda Shah, president of HUM Network Sultana Siddiqui, beautician Masarrat Misbah, producer Momina Duraid, Frieha Altaf, Fareshteh Aslam, Fizza Ali Meerza, Erum Binte Shahid, Maheen Khan, Sheema Kirmani, Samina Ahmed, Ameena Saiyid and Seema Taher Khan. Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail graced the event with his presence as chief guest.
The evening of celebration ended with tributes to Fahmida Riza and Asma Jehangir, two of the nation’s most formidable women. The award ceremony was followed by a musical performance of Veru and Fatima Shah.
