On April 2, Photospace Gallery played host to the launch of a calendar, “Shades of Green,” titled after renowned photographer Tapu Javeri’s second book.
A collaborative effort by Javeri and Pakistan Rising, a charity organisation working towards a progressive and united Pakistan, the calendar contained photographs from Javeri’s book. Each shot captured a different aspect of Pakistan, its people, places and landscapes, the urban as well as the rural — and even the desis living abroad, encapsulating the indomitable Pakistani spirit.
The event was organised to raise funds for the construction of a community empowerment centre on the outskirts of Mardan, a project undertaken by Pakistan Rising. The community centre is to operate as a school during the daytime, and an adult education and training centre in the evening. After introductory remarks by the photographer and founding members of the charity, autographed copies of the calender were put up for sale, as were sequinned t-shirts with the Pakistan flag emblazoned on the front.
