On CNN’s “Situation Room” on July 21, Wolf Blitzer’s questions to former General Pervez Musharraf were fairly predictable: they revolved around Osama bin Laden hiding out in Pakistan, the potential complicity of the ISI, what Musharraf knew as president and his possible return to politics in Pakistan, etc.

But there was one question that was hard to imagine: asking Musharraf whether or not he believed Texas Governor Rick Perry was running for US president in 2012.

The former president of Pakistan met with the Republican governor last week to “exchange views.” The meeting seemed to be initiated by Perry, according to Musharraf. Governor Perry even tweeted about the meeting and shared a photo:

Within seconds, though, the normally super-confident ex-army general wasn’t so sure about his decision to share those thoughts and seemed to publicly apologise in advance to Perry: “I hope I’m not violating the code of confidentiality that he wanted to maintain about that aspect.”

Blitzer says: “You did violate it, it’s already been violated.”

It’s safe to say Musharraf won’t be getting invited over by any other US presidential candidates before they publicly announce their candidacy.
