Deepak Perwani is a man of many talents and this was apparent at the swanky and stylish launch of his Deepak Philosophy Line (DPhilosophy) showcasing bags and furniture at the Canvas Art Gallery on June 11.

Each of the bags, shaped like the Hobo, were made from dastarkhwan material — a strikingly innovative way to rework the patterns everyone in Pakistan is familiar with. Displayed more like art, the bags were hung on the walls of the gallery, making for better viewing by the customers. Detailed with sequins, stones and beads, and priced between Rs 8,500 and Rs 9,500 — the bags were much appreciated by the crowd.

But it wasn’t just the bags that had everyone going gaga; Perwani had used the same material as upholstery for chairs, sofas, mirrors and some lamps. The mannequins that were covered with the dastarkhwan material (and obviously not for sale), were appreciated so much by one lady, that she very loudly expressed her desire to piggyback one home.
