t seems like the fashion designers in Pakistan are on a roll and there’s no stopping them. Just a few days after the conclusion of the much-awaited and talked-about Fashion Pakistan Week, the “Veet — What Beauty Feels Like” show was held at the Pearl Continental Marquee on November 11.

Organised by Catwalk Events, the show included the top names of the industry, such as Faiza Samee, HSY, Sonya Battla and Sadia Mirza. It also included the debut shows for both Zara Shahjahan and Ayesha F. Hashwani. A surprise performance by Strings, as the models sashayed on the ramp for Sadia Mirza’s collection, had the audience on its feet.

The show began fashionably late — almost an hour — but once it started, everything went seamlessly. Faiza Samee’s collection, inspired by the people of Cholistan, combined bold, bright colours in block print and was absolutely stunning. Sonya Battla’s collection was more about the cuts and the draping of the fabric that was done in geometric patterns and in shades of black, grey and red. Sadia Mirza’s collection failed to impress and seemed to be a mix of everything, none of which really worked. HSY showcased his bridal collection which was dazzling, but typical of his work with no new creations.

The debut collections were quite a hit with the audience as both the designers received a round of applause after their segments. Both designers are popular with their steady and loyal clientele and, after the response from the audience, are definitely the ones to watch out for.
